July 21, 2021, I began my writing career at the sweet age of 64 as I retired from case management. I completed my first novel in October 2021 and after many discussions, was offered a contract with a small press in May 2023. The result has not been what I expected.
Like most of life, eh?
I am thankful, however, that though this process has been painfully slow, it has caused me to grow as a person. Life should be challenging and cause us to perfect our souls, our craft as authors, and our relationships in the world.
So - to Indignor House, who holds my first baby, Coincidental Inn, in their capable hands: I trust your professional decisions and hope to wait this out like the Christian lady I have been posing as for the past forty-eight years.
To those of you who love me and have encouraged me in writing: love and thanks for your tender hearts and patient friendships.
To my eldest daughter, Alia Weylock, who is going about authorship the right way - getting her masters in the field: So proud of you, wish I had done that when I was younger. You are an amazing woman! Keep pushing through.
To my youngest daughter, Breana Whitlock: thanks for reading my stuff and for ideas for short stories that won some awards locally! Front Desk was inspired by your funny stories and was a hoot to write.
To my husband, Rex: well, your love and support mean everything. Even though I can't get you to read all my work...
And to you - gentle website visitor: welcome. I look forward to showing you my stories, hearing from you about your interests and comments, and pray that the Lord of Light and Love ever make entrance into your life with gusto.
Yours in Christ, Susan Whitlock
